about

In the summer of 2022 I found myself inhabiting a solitary house surrounded by various instruments, recording equipment and three weeks’ of free time. After amassing a sizable pile of half-finished demos over the span of 7 years, it was time to set out to stitch some of them together.

The selected works seemed to resonate with my feelings at that time. Deep and hypnotic grooves under purple-shaded chords, field recordings collected over many years and distant travels, babbling/rambling/play from my infant daughter, quirky audio experiments with homemade devices, haphazard recording techniques for the sake of efficiency and fun, use of every instrument available, a limit on number of takes to encourage first instinctual inspiration, multiple songs within snippets of songs.

The process of writing, recording and forming this record together was one of the most fulfilling things I have ever done. Often I would find myself in a trance-like creative fervor, going from instrument to instrument trying to get ideas out as fast as possible so as to try and not lose them.

I like to think of this record as a series of short vignette songs with an emphasis on movement. It almost feels like an album of outros. I feel very close to it on several levels. The songs themselves cover everything from the complex nature of being in a relationship, the feeling of complacency and separation within our society, gun violence in the US (and around the world) and hope for a better future for our kids, self-love and optimism, and reaching out to others when they are in the depths.

This record is emboldened and enlightened by friends who helped me shape it into it’s versatile groove.
Dominic Billett provided his immense talents behind the drums and Zac Canale lent his immense guitar skills.
Ben Lumsdaine mixed the record and with his additional percussion, drums, guitar, synth and production sensibilities took this album into a whole new and beautiful territory.
Frieda Myers, Caleb Hickman & Drake Ritter will find themselves featured beyond their knowledge.
